My relationship with Dave spanned 19 years. We spent 40 Sunday's a year together and watched every Super Bowl together since 1986. We developed a relationship that was more like father-son than father son-in-law.

Dave liked a great many things. He liked Jay Leno monologues, Paul Harvey broadcasts, Ronald Reagan negotiating with the Russians', high scoring football games and being read to from the Gospels. But mostly Dave loved being part of three generations of McClelland's each Sunday at my house. Prior to dinner, I would read from the Gospels, we then would eat, watch football and have dessert. While watching football, Dave would frequently show a sense of humor that after 19 years was still surprising. Once day he told me that Jay Leno said on the preceding night that Al Gore was "one orgasm away from the White House." Dave turned bright red and laughed.

Dave talked to me frequently about his father, known by all as Lloyd. After a interesting excerpt from the bible and a good meal, Dave would tell me that this is the type of evening that would have made his father proud. To Dave, this was the highest form of flattery.

My response to Dave is he lived the type of life that would have made his father proud.
